Wichita Infant Swim

Through our survival swim lesson program, your child can learn critical survival skills and a foundation for lifelong enjoyment of the water. Lessons are always one-on-one and instruction will be tailored to your child’s skill and comfort level. We do not have "group" lessons, because we believe your child should have our undivided attention. We customize their lessons, especially for them, to ens

ure the safest, most efficient lessons. We want each child to experience success and use positive reinforcement to recognize each accomplishment, no matter how small. The parent, or caregiver, watches every lesson from the poolside. Students attend 10-minute lessons every Monday-Friday (five lessons per week). The reason for this is multifaceted. First, repetition and consistency are crucial elements of learning for young children. Second, most children will not be able to focus on the detailed tasks for longer and we want to take advantage of the best time for learning. Babies 6 to 12 months are taught the rollback-to-float sequence. These young children learn from their physical environment. We honor this method of learning through sensori-motor teaching techniques. Through this process the child is taught breath control, correct floating posture, and the skills to attain a back float and remain floating for varied periods of time. Lessons typically last approximately 4 weeks for most infants, but may require a bit longer for some babies. Your child must be crawling or be able to roll over both ways and sit independently on land in order to start rollback-to-float lessons. SEE WHAT YOUR BABY COULD LEARN
Children 1 year or older who are walking are taught the swim-float-swim sequence – swimming in a face down position, using his/her arms and legs; rolling onto the back to a survival float when the normal "need for air" is sensed in the chest; and then flipping back over to continue swimming. We teach using behavioral psychology, sensorimotor learning and positive reinforcement, to make the otherwise unforgiving water environment safe for your children to learn what will work to allow them to make progress in swimming and obtain air when they need it. ISR/Safe Start has numerous safety protocols to provide the safest possible lesson. It typically takes 6 weeks to learn all the skills. The exact length of time varies somewhat since every lesson is uniquely tailored to each child and every child is different. Typically, older children between 4-6 years of age will complete lessons in a shorter period of time. SEE WHAT YOUR CHILD COULD LEARN

With a focus on providing your child with the safest and most effective lessons possible, ISR has developed our National Registration Process. The registration fee is $105 per child and will keep your child registered for the entire year. This process provides ISR with an in depth look at your child’s health, medical history, and aquatic environment. Your child’s Registration information is kept confidential and reviewed only by ISR certified personnel. Weekly lesson fees are payable weekly at $75/child/week. Vinny’s accident happened 3 months ago today.

It’s been 3 months without hearing his sweet voice.

3 months without hearing his infectious laugh permeate through our house.

3 months without his morning cuddles.

3 months of pictures without him in them.

3 months without his excitement when we pick him up from daycare.

3 months without seeing what new things he’s learning, way before it’s expected for his age.

3 months without kissing him in between every bar on his crib before he goes to bed.

3 months of a new bath and bedtime routine.

3 months asking God to give him his good night kisses.

3 months of being scared to look at the “1 year ago” and “2 year ago” memories.

3 months trying to figure out what mix of counselors will help us live with this grief.

3 months not being able to scroll through pictures and videos, because seeing them of Vinny totally derails the day.

3 months protecting our marriage, knowing 80% end in divorce within 1 year after child loss.

3 months searching for signs from heaven.

3 months wondering how the hell we’re going to do this.

3 months being pi**ed off at our guardian angels.

3 months of putting on a face because we sure as hell aren’t going to wallow in our sorrow.

3 months navigating a world where we are still fragile as ever, but everyone else has gone back to normal.

3 months figuring out how to have a conversation effectively after being triggered, through no fault of anyone else.

3 months closer to seeing him again.

3 months of forcing ourselves to get up and show up for Luca, being intentional in making sure he never feels less than.

3 months trying to figure out how to make lemonade out of rotten lemons.

3 months trying to inform you to ditch those puddle jumpers so you don’t experience 3 months without your baby.

3 months appreciating those who’ve heard our story and could not would not even think about putting a puddle jumper on their precious child.

3 months knowing 100% Luca is our angel on earth.

3 months meeting the most amazing and supportive group of parents who’ve lost children to drowning, all with the same exact findings and motivation to raise awareness.

3 months of finding a new purpose through informing others about water safety and sharing what we found out when it was too late.

3 months knowing my baby not only saved 3 others through organ donations, but through inspiring 3 people to become ISR instructors in our area and countless others who have transformed the way they think about water.

3 months being amazed at the Swim for Vinny community, rallying around raising awareness for survival swim and no puddle jumpers.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our cause and is Swimming for Vinny- meaning no puddle jumpers, utilizing layers of protection and most important, learning self rescue swim. Thanks for helping us through the hardest 3 months of our lives. Thanks to anyone who’s shared his story, shared your learnings from Vinny’s story, advocated for self rescue swim and no puddle jumpers, and just simply reached out to be there for us. We hate that we are on this journey, but we know that we have a swim for vinny community supporting us every step of the way. ❤️💔❤️💔

Gobble, gobble! 🦃 Is your baby starting to waddle?! 👶🥰

Did you know that the skills your little one practices every day will directly translate to what they will be doing in their ISR lessons?

Our youngest students who have built the core strength to roll and sit independently use those same muscles to find their way to their back in water and maintain a stable floating posture. There aren’t enough words to say how much my family and I appreciate ISR.

Sawyer began ISR with Emily starting just shy of a year. This past summer we finished our third round. Shortly after our second round was complete, Sawyer slipped into our pool while my back was turned. It was cold, he was fully dressed, and handled himself exactly like he had been taught to do. I was to him and had him pulled out of the water within seconds. Sawyer was (and still is) very confident in the water. He treated that day like any other and he wasn’t phased in the least bit. The skills he has learned with Emily truly are life saving.

Here’s’ Penelope’s Story...

ISR is a skill you invest in, yet hope to never have to use.
Last summer, my then 2 year old was playing on the sun ledge in a friends pool next to me. I began talking to a friend and she was playing on my back. Next thing I know, I saw her from the corner of my eyes floating. She had taken a step off of the ledge and began to float. There were at least 8 adult friends right there. Non of us noticed that she had fallen in. It happened so fast, yet she had the skill necessary to keep herself safe.

We are forever thankful for Emily and the commitment we made to the ISR process.
