ICT Food Rescue

A semester ending turned into food shared with our community. ❤️

Recently, surplus food and drinks from NICHE were rescued through ICT Food Rescue and delivered to Union Rescue Mission of Wichita as the semester came to a close.

Miranda and Keegan helped load up the rescue and continue to lead by example in what it means to be true community champions. Their commitment to making sure good food is shared instead of wasted is exactly what helps strengthen Wichita’s food system.

This is exactly what ICT Food Rescue’s Food Recovery Program exists to do. We help make food donation simple by coordinating the logistics between food donors and nonprofit partners across Wichita. We schedule the rescue, provide a volunteer food runner to pick up the surplus, and coordinate direct delivery to one of the 19 nonprofit partners we serve, helping keep good food in circulation instead of heading to landfills.

The wonderful staff at Little Caesars has been partnering with ICT Food Rescue to make sure their surplus pizzas find a home instead of a trash can. Every week our volunteer picks up their excess and delivers it to not one, not two, but FOUR nonprofits right here in Wichita serving our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

Weekly the pizzas are delivered to Wichita Family Crisis Center, OpenDoor, Ronald McDonald House Charities Wichita, and Wichita Fellowship Club, Inc.

This is the kind of partnership that makes our hearts full. Little Caesars shows up week after week and our community is better for it.

The amazing staff at Vora Restaurant European made sure their Mother's Day Brunch surplus did not go to waste. One of our volunteers picked it up and delivered it straight to Wichita Fellowship Club, Inc. so our neighbors experiencing food insecurity could enjoy a little celebration too.

This is what food rescue looks like at its best: a restaurant with a big heart, a dedicated volunteer, and a community that shows up for one another. We are so grateful for partners like Vora who see the value in making sure good food finds its way to the right place.

If your restaurant or business has surplus food after events, we would love to connect! The key is getting on our weekly schedule or giving our team at least 48 hours notice in advance.
