I’m saddened by the passing of Connie Palacioz, Wichita’s own Rosie the Riveter, at 101-years-old. Connie showed us a life of purpose includes family, faith, and community. Please keep her family in your prayers as we honor her incredible legacy.

At just 17, she worked as a riveter on the B-29 Superfortress during World War II, even helping build “Doc” in 1943. Decades later, she continued giving back, volunteering to help restore the aircraft and inspire future generations.

This week marked 33 years since I came to America as an 8-year-old who didn’t speak English. Wichita gave my family education, opportunity, and a place we’re proud to call home. I will never take that for granted.

Grateful to be an American. Lucky to live in Wichita. Honored to serve you.

Women’s History Month 2026: “Because of you, I am.” Grateful for the 4 women mayors who came before me, Mayor Peters (75/78), Mayor Edmiston (85), Mayor Wright (83-84), and Mayor Broadfoot (93-95).

As the first woman mayor elected to a full term of 4-years, and as we end this month, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to serve our community. Thank you to Wichita residents for allowing me to serve my hometown, which has given me, a first generation immigrant, so many opportunities.
