An uptick in persons crimes but a dip in property crimes is leading to overall decrease in crime in Wheat Ridge this year.
Our commitment to sharing monthly activity wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of our Crime Analyst and our Administrative Program Coordinator who put this report together.
Here’s what we can report through May 2026.
We break up our crimes into two main buckets: persons and property crimes. The following grid shows our cases for each of those crimes with a breakdown over the past five months. The bottom row shows the total number of cases for those crimes per month.
Persons crimes hit extremely high levels in May, while property crime levels were moderately low. The year-to-date (YTD) activity level compares where we are through the year compared to that same time frame averaged over the past five years. Calls for persons crimes rose roughly 14% in through May compared to the same time frame in 2025. Calls for property crimes were down nearly 13%.
We’re seeing encouraging drops in calls for crimes including burglary (down 23%), motor vehicle theft (down 52%) and 1st-degree criminal trespass (down 59%).
We recognize an increase in reports of sexual assault within our community so far this year. Our department is committed to supporting survivors by ensuring they have direct access to the specialized care, resources and paths to safety they deserve.
To ensure comprehensive support, we partner closely with Victim Outreach Incorporated (VOI), whose advocates provide critical resources and ensure survivors never have to navigate the system alone. Additionally, we connect individuals with the vital, specialized services available at The Family Tree and the PorchLight, A Family Justice Center.
You are not alone, and our priority is your safety, autonomy, and well-being.
We can’t solve crimes we don’t know about. If you see something, say something and call 911. Thank you for caring about our community as much as we do, so we can continue to make Wheat Ridge one of the safest communities in Colorado.

Slow down on Kipling St.
Wheat Ridge has become a cut-through community and as part of our continued efforts to make our streets safer, Wheat Ridge PD has established Kipling St. as a speed corridor.
On Monday afternoon, we activated a new speed camera along Kipling St. between W 32nd Ave. and W 34th Ave. For the next 30 days, drivers speeding excessively on this stretch will be mailed a warning before notices of civil violation start August 5, 2026.
We have seen a consistent trend of fewer citations where automated speed cameras exist in our community, and an 18% decrease in crashes in these areas as well. Please continue to drive safely for everyone who walks, bikes, drives and calls our community home. For more information on our speed camera program, click here: https://tinyurl.com/mspksj7d
Stop speeding in Wheat Ridge.

UPDATE: Thanks to our partners at Colorado Department of Transportation who brought a generator to restore power to the lights along Wadsworth. The intersection is back open. W 44th Ave. and Vance St. light remains out for now. We appreciate your patience.
TRAFFIC ALERT: A power outage has shut down traffic lights along Wadsworth Blvd. from W 45th Ave. to W 43rd Ave. Wheat Ridge PD is directing traffic at the intersection of W 44th Ave. and Wadsworth Blvd.
We are shutting down traffic going east or west on 44th at Vance St. and Yarrow St. We are also shutting down the Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) lanes and only allowing traffic to flow north and south along Wadsworth in the area at this time.
We advise taking W 38th Ave. or W 52nd Ave. if you want to travel east or west to get around this closure.
There is currently no timeline for the power to be restored. Please follow this post for updates and thank you for your patience.
