Sterling Sleep Systems
Just wanted to let everyone know. We have had to temporarily shut off Paypal check-out on our website. Our web host recently changed how PayPal transactions are being handled, and it is currently not working correctly. So until our host sorts it out, we are not able to take orders via PayPal. We still accept all major credit cards, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Have you heard that there are now 4 states that charge mattress recycle fees? Oregon was just added. These fees are supposed to offset the costs associated with recycling used mattresses, and here in California, retailers are also required to remove old mattresses from your home when a new mattress is delivered if you request it at their expense. You can be charged a delivery fee, but not a removal fee under the law. Here is the problem: the recycle fee does not go to the retailer to cover their expenses. The fee goes to the Mattress Recycling Counsel and the recycling facilities. Not only does this fee apply to Softside Waterbed Systems (hardside waterbeds are exempt as long as they do not have a quilted cover), but regular mattresses, latex and memory foam, and just about every other type of mattress as well, but in some states, it is about to double., (https://mrcreporting.org/). Want to know the best part? Most major cities (at least here in California) offer FREE Large Item Pick up services, that includes mattresses... so why are customer required to pay a fee for recycling mattresses with required retailer pick-up when your city likely already does that as part of your trash services???
These fees are required to be on your receipt, and sales reported to the MRC on a monthly basis. This fee applies to EVERY retailer or manufacture that sells mattresses to consumers, regardless if they are online only, or a traditional brick and mortar store, to every state that has a recycling law.
Funny thing, no other part of the furniture industry has these requirements. Just the mattress industry.
So if you live in California, next time you order a new foam mattress online, ask their customer service team how they are going to remove and recycle your old mattress. You have 30 days to request removal from when your order is placed. If they don't have a response, you may want to reconsider buying from them. If they are not willing to comply with that regulation, its possible they are not complying with the fire regulations for mattresses as well. There is something to be said for shopping with small businesses that have been in the business for years.
We have been around over 35 years now, and offer a range of products that are able to last much longer than the 7-10 year standard lifespan. Part of how we do that is with replaceable parts. That means if you pay a recycle fee to us, you may not have to pay it again for 15-20 years. If nothing else its a estimate to our product quality, and our brand.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. we are here to help you make educated decisions, and make sure you understand exactly what you are getting from us.
