I had a listing go live on the MLS yesterday afternoon.
By this morning I had a voicemail waiting — another agent, loud and certain, telling me I had the wrong address on a property that belonged to a friend of his, and I'd better take it down.
I pulled the parcel. Checked the address. Checked the county records. I wasn't wrong.
I called him back. He said, "Yeah, I got it mixed up. I sent you a text."
There was no text.
No apology. No "I should've checked before I called." Just a quick hang-up and back to his day.
I sat with that for a minute. Not the mistake — mistakes happen, I've made plenty. The part that stuck with me was the swing first, verify never.
Here's the thing I think about a lot when people ask me what to look for in an agent, especially when you're selling the home you raised your kids in: tenure isn't the same as care. A name you see on signs all over town isn't the same as a person who pulls the parcel before they pick up the phone.
The agent you want is the one who, when something feels wrong, says let me double-check, I might be the one who's mistaken. That sentence costs nothing. And it tells you everything.
Be picky. This stage of life deserves it.
