Spry Middle School PTSA

Hey Warrior families,
We have A LOT of these parked at Spry daily.
We also have A LOT of these whipping through the sidewalks during school hours, the parking lots during dismissal, and after school during events.
Please talk with your cherubs. Motorized bikes/scooters are not allowed on campus for many reasons, mostly for safety.
We want to protect everyone on campus.

⚠️ Notice for residents of Webster!

There has been an increase in incidents involving electric bikes (e-bikes), electric scooters (e-scooters), mopeds, and pedalless e-bikes across Monroe County. To address the growing issue and prevent tragedy in our Town, please remember the following:

Laws around electric scooters include:

🛴 Only one rider is allowed at a time.
🛴 Speed must not exceed 15 MPH.
🛴 Use is prohibited on sidewalks and in parks.
🛴 Scooters should be ridden on the shoulder of the road or as far to the right as possible.
🛴 They must be operated in the same direction as traffic.
🛴 Pedestrians have the right of way.

Laws around electric bikes include:

🚲 E-bikes cannot be operated on roads with a speed limit exceeding 30 MPH.
🚲 Class 3 e-bikes are only permitted in New York City.
🚲 DMV registration is not required.
🚲 Riders must use a bike lane when available or ride as far to the right as possible.
🚲 They must be operated in the same direction as traffic.

Laws around mopeds and pedalless electric bikes (e-bikes):

🚲 If there are no functioning pedals, it is considered a moped and, therefore, a motor vehicle.
🚲 Riders must have a VIN, registration, license plate, and insurance for their vehicle.
🚲 Operating one on public streets, shoulders, or in bike lanes is a traffic violation and can lead to tickets or impoundment.

Remember that the minimum age to operate any of the above equipment is 16. Adhering to these laws protects your life and the lives of others!
