Winterizing your equipment:
We have received multiple calls already this morning regarding winterizing equipment.
Donny says it is better to have your pump running vs. the water freezing at the top of your pool & risking tile/plaster damage.
The instructions listed below will be for those who would like to drain their equipment instead of wondering/worrying about your freeze guard not working.
Power: Switch off the power to all the equipment.
Pumps: Remove the small plugs at the bottom of all pump baskets & remove the pump lids.
Heater: On the plumbing side of the heater, remove the small drain plug(s) which are 3/8" diameter. Remove the plug(s) on the opposite side of the heater as well. You may have a rubber access plug or sheet metal covering to access the plugs. (Check out your manufacturer/heater model & look for the manual online)
Filter: Open the air bleed located on top of the filter beneath the pressure gauge. Remove any plugs or caps near the bottom of the filter. Keep them off even after draining.
Skimmer: Put tennis balls (if you have some) or empty plastic bottles (filled with any small objects to add weight - gravel, coins) into skimmer so they are submerged halfway. This is to mitigate & help prevent expanding ice from damaging the plastic skimmers.
If your pool equipment is lower than your pool, the water will drain out of the pool until it reaches the elevation of your equipment. If this happens & the water drops below skimmers, there shouldn't be a concern as long as skimmers are empty.
