FORT WORTH, Texas – November 19, 2025 – The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) is fully aware of the recent Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1/EHM) outbreak affecting parts of Texas. First and foremost, the health and safety of our equine athletes, competitors, and the entire community is our top priority.
We are actively monitoring the situation and are in direct consultation with leading veterinarians and the Texas Animal Health Commission. The reported strain is highly aggressive, and we are following expert advice and state protocols to mitigate risks.
In response, the NCHA is implementing the following measures for the World Championship Futurity:
- All attendees are encouraged to implement temperature monitoring of all horses upon arrival and twice daily during their stay.
- Immediate isolation and veterinary assessment for any horse presenting a fever or respiratory/neurological symptoms.
- Enhanced disinfection protocols for shared spaces and equipment.
- Strict controls on horse-to-horse contact and avoidance of communal water and feed sources.
- Full cooperation with state and local authorities for ongoing tracing and containment efforts.
We urge all participants to closely monitor their horses for:
- Early signs of fever, nasal discharge, cough, or neurological symptoms.
-Any abnormal behavior or difficulty in movement should be reported to event officials and a veterinarian immediately.
NCHA remains committed to transparent, ongoing communication as the situation evolves. Further updates will be provided to all participants as more guidance from veterinary and state officials becomes available.
Thank you for your cooperation and dedication to the health of our valued equine athletes.
