Project Mayhem Tattoo
12/30/2023
I’ve written this more times than I’d care to admit, and accidentally deleted it once. And of course, I’ve waited until the last minute to spill the beans!🤭 Anyway, let’s rip this bandaid off, shall we?😬
Project Mayhem is closing up shop. Truthfully, this isn’t a new development. I’ve been talking with my people about the inevitability of the end for a few months now. This year has been a hard one. In this business, we go through seasons and that’s the way it’s always been. The highs are always fleeting and then the lows at the end of the year get you by the balls, but that’s the way it is and you roll with it. Over the last few years, those lows have gotten lower and far more stressful. I’ve pulled a few rabbits out of my hat but I’m fresh out of rabbits this time. I’ve had a hard time coming to terms with it. I have poured my heart and soul into this old place. The love I have for it is almost beyond what it even is. An attachment really. I’ve spent 8 years of my life within these walls creating some of the tattoos I ever have on the most awesome clients that have trusted me with their skin and my sharpies. You guys have challenged me and I’ve created the best original pieces of my career! The more I look at it that way, the less it’s feeling like a failure and more like an accomplishment. Eight years is a damn good run and for a small business, that’s worth being proud of. The memories are worth all the grey hair! This might be the end of Mayhem, but it’s just a place. It’s not what made me. I repeat the mantra, “artist first, tattooer second.” A maker’s gotta make right? What does the future hold for Sambo? Well, I can’t tell you for sure. I’ve got a few plots and plans but nothing I want to put out into to the universe just yet. To my clients, don’t freak out! I’m not going to disappear! I’m just in a transition. Feel free to DM me, I’ve got free time! It’s exciting after all these years to feel a change coming on! 🎉So Happy New Year my dudes and cheers to new beginnings!🍻
To quote Fight Club, “It’s only after we’ve lost everything, that we’re free to do anything.” 😎 Seems appropriate in this context.
