This is one of our favorite times of the year.

Native Iowa plants are hitting their stride, with layers of color, texture, and blooms all coming together at once. These landscapes were designed to evolve through the seasons, and July is when many of them really start showing off.

Weโ€™re grateful to help clients plan, design, install, and steward spaces like this that are beautiful, resilient, and full of life for people and pollinators alike.

If youโ€™ve been wondering what a native landscape looks like in midsummer, this is it.

๐ŸŒฟ Tomorrow's the day!

If you've ever been curious about food forests, native landscapes, rain gardens, or how ecological design can work in real-world settings, we'd love to have you join us.

Tomorrow morning, we're partnering with Drake University for the inaugural **Drake University Ecology Field Day**, where we'll explore the Sprout Garden and Food Forest as a living case study. We'll share what's working, what we've learned, and have open conversations about creating more resilient, beautiful landscapes.

Whether you're a homeowner, developer, landscape professional, city staff member, student, or simply passionate about conservation, this event is for you.

Challenging hill >>> native habitat

This hillside was difficult to mow, prone to erosion, and underutilized. Today itโ€™s a thriving landscape filled with native plants, natural stone steps, pollinator habitat, and a dry creek system designed to work with the landโ€”not against it.

The plants are just getting established, but the transformation is already incredible. Give it a couple seasons and this space will be buzzing with bees, butterflies, and color.

What was once a slope to manage is now a destination to enjoy.

Lawns aren't always the best solution.

This steep backyard slope was difficult to maintain and prone to erosion. By replacing turf with native plantings, stone pathways, and a naturalized drainage system, we created a landscape that:

โœ” Reduces maintenance
โœ” Supports pollinators and wildlife
โœ” Improves stormwater management
โœ” Creates safer access throughout the site
โœ” Adds year-round beauty and interest

And this is year one fresh after install. Native landscapes get better with time.
