NEW RELEASE!
https://store.der.org/the-mbako-trial-p1093.aspx

The latest feature by the award-winning pioneer of African animation Jean-Michel Kibushi Ndjate Wooto — also widely considered the first Congolese animator — MBAKO TRIAL: MYTH & REALITY is a sharp reinterpretation of a 1933 trial held by Belgian colonial authorities, in which a group of men were accused of being members of the Anioto society: men said to kill like the leopard.

With no visual documentation of the hearings, Kibushi reimagines the events through animation, re-enactments, and interviews. The film challenges Western portrayals of the leopard men as a “savage other” and colonial conceptions of justice and socio-political order.
