On January 3rd, 1947, progressive luminaries such as Eleanor Roosevelt, John Kenneth Galbraith, Walter Reuther, Hubert Humphry Arthur Schlesinger, and Reinhold Niebuhr joined together to form Americans for Democratic Action with the mission of keeping the New Deal alive for generations of Americans to come.

77 years later ADA is still leading the way. Today at the core of our mission is defending our democracy from MAGA Republicans and authoritarians who seek to undermine and eradicate the most sacred of our values.

We look to our founders for inspiration as we prepare for the fight ahead, the fight to save, protect, and expand democracy in America. They too stood-up in the face of fascist demagogues who also tried to undermine our democracy and take away hard won rights. They won and the New Deal lives to this day because of it.

We have an exciting new candidate in Iowa's second district. Read ADA's latest election spotlight covering Corkery For Congress's entrance into the race.

Cedar Falls Democrat Sarah Corkery seeks to unseat two-term MAGA Republican Ashley Hinson whose lifetime ADA voting record is a whopping 0%! Although this is Corkery's first run at public office, she is no newcomer to political activism. As a two-time breast cancer survivor and health care activist Corkery tried for years to get Hinson to sign onto the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act. Hinson remained the only Member of the Iowa delegation to not support the legislation, that was until Corkery announced her run for Congress. On the very first day of Corkery's campaign, Hinson finally announced her support for the legislation. What a great grassroots victory to launch your campaign on!

That is precisely the kind of tenacity and guts it's going to take to reclaim this district. Hinson beat Democratic Challenger Liz Mathis by 8 points in 2022. A traditional campaign is not going to prevail in this once blue district; however, a candidate running as a grassroots advocate for Eastern Iowa just might be the key to an upset.
