📍 Plot Twist: You Live Here Too 🌍
It's easy to think of environmental harm as something happening somewhere else, but the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the climate we depend on connect us all. When pollution is released, when protections are rolled back, or when corporate profits are prioritized over public health, the impacts don't stay put. ⚠️🛢️
That's why World Environment Day isn't just about protecting nature. It's about protecting people. Because there is no separate category for "the environment." It's where we live, work, raise our families, and build our futures. 🌱✨

✊ What’s in the Air Matters 💨
In many rural communities, oil and gas sites sit close to homes and schools. That means pollution isn’t far away. It travels through the air and reaches the places people spend their time. 🏡😷
During recent visits, most sites showed signs of pollution, and community members reported ongoing health concerns. Limited oversight and fewer resources make it harder to track and address these risks. 🏭⚠️
Tools like thermal cameras help communities see what’s happening and speak up for cleaner air and safer conditions. Everyone deserves to know what they’re breathing. 🌎💚

Seeing What We’ve Been Breathing: What I’ve Witnessed in 2026 So Far - Earthworks What happens at an oil and gas site doesn’t stay there. It moves. Out here there aren’t many barriers separating well sites from homes or schools.

Our June : Hilcorp.
As the EPA moves to weaken methane protections, Hilcorp’s ongoing pollution shows exactly why these rules matter.
Hilcorp has ranked as the #1 methane polluter in the U.S., and last summer earned our Polluter of the Month designation.
Nearly a year later, Earthworks thermographers are still documenting emissions at Hilcorp facilities in New Mexico, while satellite data continues detecting methane super-emitter plumes tied to the company's operations.
When pollution keeps appearing from the ground and from space, companies don’t deserve a free pass.
We loved collaborating with David Joseph Weissberg’s and his unique, collage-style approach for this month’s artwork!

Equinox Gold wants to quadruple the size of the Castle Mountain gold mine in the Mojave Desert. Their proposal would leave behind massive waste piles, threaten groundwater, and require the construction of new infrastructure through protected public lands.
Communities and Tribal Nations should not be forced to absorb permanent environmental damage so a company can mine faster and make more money. Better alternatives exist, and regulators should require them.
