Creative Grounds DC
Recently, we had the privilege of welcoming these beautiful sistas to Creative Grounds DC to discuss what it means to bring the wisdom, practice, and dignity of death and life care back into communities of color.
They are death doulas and community care workers, and challenged me to think about care not only at the end of life, but throughout it with a specific lens on love, advocacy, cultural traditions, and the ways we hold one another through transition.
In so many of our communities, conversations around death are often avoided, rushed, or disconnected from culture and collective care. But what would it look like to reclaim these practices with tenderness, honesty, and intention? What would it mean to ensure our communities are cared for with dignity at every stage of life?
Im so grateful Creative Grounds can be a space for conversations like these. Ladies, I look forward to having ya”ll back. (If you see this please tag yourselves or comment below)
Gotta say, work on view was the perfect backdrop to this discussion. 🖤

I have the great privilege of being in community with so many people who have lovingly adopted me as their daughter. And, as the daughter of a woman who embodies so much of what I now try to share with my own children and with anyone willing to listen, I can’t help but feel immense gratitude today.
I hope all of you are loved and cared for exactly as you are.
And, as my daughter said, I hope you have respect, kindness, and coffee today.
