✋Show of hands if you’ve heard this one before: “This isn’t age-appropriate! Let’s just let kids be kids!”

The two falsehoods within this pearl-clutching statement—that talking about LGBTQ+ identities is inherently a conversation about s*x, and that kids exposed to information about LGBTQ+ identities will be “turned gay”—are as pervasive as they are harmful.

➡️There are age-appropriate ways to talk about s*xual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression with children of all ages.

➡️ LGBTQ+ inclusive curriculum and conversations about the world should be honest and accurate.

➡️S*xual orientation and gender identity are innate characteristics; nothing that a child sees, hears, watches, or experiences can “cause” them to be LGBTQ+.
