The City of Los Angeles won this year’s Audrey Nelson Award for their incredible project regarding the Mayfair Hotel.

The city purchased and rehabilitated the hotel, containing 294 units, to use for pet-friendly, interim housing. Additionally, this location now offers on-site services including, but not limited to, employment assistance, life skills, substance use disorder, physical and mental health, case management, and housing resources.

This project further addresses the city’s homelessness crisis by filling the critical gap of pet-friendly interim housing for unhoused Angelenos. As of April 2025, 276 clients resided at the Mayfair Hotel.

This project utilized over $27 million in CDBG dollars. Much of this funding was reprogrammed and allocated from other city-wide CDBG projects which were postponed to fund the hotel’s acquisition, emphasizing the City’s commitment to prioritize housing resources.

Congratulations to the City of Los Angeles for their amazing work!
