"Over the past several elections, particularly the presidential elections, Black voters have turned out in record numbers, and that's still continuing to grow," says Project 21 Director Terris E. Todd. "This idea that (they're) somehow taking away Black voters' rights is just not accurate."

"Today the Virginia Supreme Court struck down the left's meretricious scheme to deny nearly half of the state representatives who share their values," says Project 21 Chairman Horace Cooper.

"Less than three weeks ago I made this very prediction. You can gerrymander and redistrict at any time for any reason, but you can’t cheat while doing so.

"The court found today that the process by which the referendum reached the ballot did not comply with constitutional requirements.

"This — along with the U..S. Supreme Court’s recent VRA ruling — dooms the chances of progressives to use the redistricting process as a tool to take control over the U.S. House in 2028.

"It’s time for the left to quit legislative machinations and come up with a program that has appeal to the American people."

“Our Constitution, which always contemplated a society that neither benefited nor harmed a citizen because of race, ultimately was formally amended in 1868 through the 14th Amendment to ensure that it was colorblind,” says Project 21 Chairman Horace Cooper, a former constitutional law professor.

“This week the Court recognized that our Constitution is colorblind when it comes to racial gerrymandering, and all state legislatures must adhere to this. I commend the Supreme Court as it continues to uphold this vital ‘colorblind’ policy — a policy that ensures no American is favored over another because of his or her race.

"To quote Justice Thomas, ‘Today’s decision should largely put an end to this “disastrous misadventure” in voting-rights jurisprudence.’ We at Project 21 continue to strive to make sure that all Americans — white, black or brown — live in an America that sees them as individuals and not as race-hued beings separated into groups.”
