GINGERTOWN’s lots allow individual designers and teams to be highly creative as they build essential town structures. These structures are trimmed with chocolate, frosting, sprinkles, jelly beans and other edible (and sugary) building materials. More than 250 pounds of gingerbread, 100 pounds of icing and 10 pounds of gumdrops are used to create this sweet downtown. The hand crafted structures are then donated and put on display at local hospitals, health care facilities and community support organizations to help spread the message of joy and hope during the holidays. Recipients of the buildings have included: St. Elizabeth, SOME and Wendt Center For Grief, My Sister’s Place, National Children’s Medical Center, the Washington Home, and Martha’s Table. All sponsorships and other monies raised by Gingertown are donated to the recipients of the structures.
