Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease (PMD) is a rare, progressive, degenerative CNS disorder.
It is an X-linked neurological disorder that damages oligodendrocytes in the CNS.
It is caused by mutations in proteolipid protein 1 (PLP1).
It is a major myelin protein.
PMD is characterized by hypomyelination leading to deterioration of coordination, motor abilities & intellectual functions.
There is no cure or standard treatment for Pelizaeus–Merzbacher disease...
