🕊Today marks the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War, which began on June 25, 1950. We honor and express our gratitude to the approximately 1.8 million American service members who fought in the war until the armistice was signed on July 27, 1953. Tragically, more than 36,000 of these brave individuals, including 8,000 prisoners of war and those listed as missing in action, never returned home. We remember and pay tribute to their sacrifices.
The Korean War also resulted in the loss of over 2.5 million Korean lives and caused the separation of more than 10 million Korean families. Among them are 100,000 Korean Americans who have yet to reunite with their families in the North.
Sadly, the division between North and South Korea remains unresolved, and the two nations are technically still at war. As we commemorate the sacrifices made during the Korean War, we hold onto hope for lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
