Every 4th of July, moments like this remind us why we do what we do.

Therapy mini horses. A parade. Our very own Francesca Vogel out in the community with client Jill, right in the middle of something wonderful.

Holidays matter. Traditions matter. The feeling of being connected to something — and someone — matters. That's what we're thinking about when we care for your loved one, not just the logistics of care, but the moments that make life feel like life.

Seniors are our people. Every single day. 🐴❤️🇺🇸

Have a fun and safe 4th of July!

✨ Meet Steven — General Manager

We're excited to introduce Steven, Hillendale's General Manager. Steven brings decades of business ownership and home care experience, and a deep passion for helping clients and families navigate care with compassion and support.

Steven began his career in credit and collections, eventually owning and operating his own agency for 11 years starting in 1995. In 2006, he transitioned into home care, first in live-in childcare and later into senior care in 2018. He joined Hillendale as General Manager, bringing that full arc of experience with him.

His connection to this work is personal. After seeing his own grandmother need support to remain safely at home, Steven understands how important quality care can be for families. One of the most rewarding parts of his role is meeting clients in person and being involved in their care journey.

Steven is also fortunate to work alongside Hillendale's dedicated Client Care Managers and Staffing Managers, a team whose compassion, teamwork, and commitment make coming to work every day both meaningful and fun.

Outside of work, Steven enjoys spending time with family and friends, relaxing by the pool or beach, and hanging out with his dogs. As he says, if he weren't in home care, he'd probably be working with dogs in some way.

We're grateful for the leadership, perspective, and heart Steven brings to the Hillendale community every day.

Our latest "Caregiver of the Quarter" award goes to Rebecca Ramirez, and honestly, we couldn't be prouder. Rebecca, the whole Hillendale family celebrated you today, and you deserve every bit of it. Thank you for the care, consistency, and heart you bring to your clients every single day.

This is what working at Hillendale looks like: a team that shows up for each other, recognizes the people doing the real work, and genuinely invests in your growth. Competitive pay, ongoing training, clear career paths, and a culture that treats caregivers with the same dignity and respect we ask them to bring to every client.

Seniors are our people. And our caregivers are our people too.

Yesterday was Father's Day. June is Men's Health Month. We want to mark both by sharing a story.

Billy Jack is 98 years old and lives in Alamo. He was hospitalized with pneumonia in April, and his team wasn't sure he would recover. Faced with the option of invasive interventions, he said no. He had always been clear that he wanted to stay home. So his care team built around that wish, and they brought him home.

Last week, he was playing the piano.

Our own Francesca Vogel has been in Billy Jack's corner for years, advocating alongside his family and coordinating his care team. His primary Hillendale caregiver Enrica has built a bond with him that his family says is a real part of why he's still here. Together with his doctors and loved ones, they call themselves "Team Billy Jack."

His story is a good illustration of the independence and positive outcomes that can come from home care working so closely with the whole care team. A man in his own home, on his own terms, with a team that knows him and a care plan built around what he actually wants.

We also wrote about something harder this month: the reality that aging men are less likely than women to ask for help, to seek medical care proactively, or to admit when things have changed. The statistics on isolation, depression, and preventable decline in older men are striking. The "I'm fine" runs deep.

If you're navigating this with someone you care about, we put together a practical guide for Father's Day. Worth a read, and worth sharing.

Today we're thinking about every father, grandfather, and great-grandfather we've had the honor of caring for.

The men who built businesses, raised families, served their country, and showed up — every day — for the people they loved. The men who taught us to be tough, to be soft, to be patient, to fix what we can and accept what we can't.

And the families now caring for them in return.

Whether you're celebrating in person, calling long-distance, or quietly remembering one no longer here — we see you. The love that brought us here doesn't fade. It just changes shape.

Happy Father's Day from the Hillendale family.
