A state panel voted unanimously Friday to revoke the disability pension of state Sen. Paul Cicarella, a taxpayer-funded benefit that was on track to pay the North Haven Republican $71,000 this year.

The pension became the focus of statewide scrutiny after a CT Insider investigation showed how breakdowns in state oversight allowed him to collect the lifelong benefit for years while also earning income from other sources.

Connecticut is experiencing an unusually eventful primary season, with closely watched races for governor, Congress and state legislative seats set to culminate in Aug. 11 elections.

Because the state has closed primaries, though, not everyone will be able to participate.

Here’s how to know whether you are eligible to cast a ballot in the primary, as candidates are selected to run in the November general election.
