Another 100 Points to celebrate! Thank you, International Wine Report and Jermeny Young for awarding our 2023 Fiddleneck Vineyard Grenache 100 Points, Editor’s Choice.
The ancient river stones of the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley shape this wine as much as the vintage does, giving the 2023 Fiddleneck Vineyard Grenache from the Walla Walla Valley a striking mineral intensity from the first impression. Raised for 15 months in neutral French oak, it opens with scents of Bing cherry, red plum skin, blood orange peel, crushed purple flower petals, and a smoky cedary herbal note that ties it all together. The color is a luminous medium ruby with a delicate pink edge, yet the palate carries far more authority than that graceful appearance suggests. There is real amplitude here, with a silken, almost glycerol texture wrapped around layers of pomegranate, wild strawberry, savory herb, and ferrous rock, all driven by superb tension. Its combination of depth and cut gives it extraordinary persistence, and the finish keeps returning to saline, dried sage, and citrus oil rather than sheer fruit weight. Serve it with saffron-braised rabbit with olives and preserved lemon, where the wine’s savory mineral streak, floral lift, and penetrating acidity would meet the dish perfectly. Expect this perfect Grenache to develop beautifully over the next 15 years or more".
