People often tell me, “You’ll get through this.”
I know I will.
That’s never really been the question.
I’ve survived every hard thing that’s happened to me. I survived the childhood that taught me to stay small. I survived the relationships that made me question my own reality. I survived the losses, the betrayals, the constant feeling that I had to carry more than any one person should. Survival is not the part I doubt.
The part I’m tired of is needing it.
People praise resilience as though it’s always a gift. They admire how strong I am, how well I cope, how I always seem to keep going. What they don’t see is that resilience usually grows where there was no other choice. It is often built on a nervous system that never learnt what it feels like to truly rest.
I don’t want my life to be a series of things I managed to survive.
I want to know what it feels like to wake up without scanning for danger. I want to make decisions that aren’t shaped by fear. I want my body to stop expecting the next crisis before I’ve even finished recovering from the last one. I want peace to feel familiar instead of suspicious.
For so many trauma survivors, healing isn’t about becoming stronger. We have been strong for decades. Healing is finally allowing ourselves to become safe enough that strength isn’t our only way of existing.
Maybe that’s the part people don’t always understand.
I don’t need more proof that I can survive.
I’m grieving the years I spent believing survival was the same thing as living.
And I think, for the first time, I’m ready for something gentler than survival.

Facts
Don't let people gaslight you into believing you're to blame for being unwell... You're not. They have a problem with you being unwell and show their true colors every time they shift the blame to you.

Trauma isn’t one-size-fits-all.
It shows up in different forms, and understanding the type can help you understand your reactions with less shame.
Acute Trauma
A single overwhelming event.
Accidents, assaults, natural disasters, sudden loss.
The nervous system gets hit hard, fast.
Chronic Trauma
Ongoing exposure over time.
Repeated stress, long-term danger, or situations where relief never comes.
The body stays on alert because the threat doesn’t stop.
Complex Trauma
Multiple or prolonged traumatic experiences, often starting early in life.
Especially when harm comes from people who were supposed to provide safety.
This shapes how the nervous system learns trust, safety, and connection.
Systemic Trauma
Harm that comes from systems, institutions, or environments.
Discrimination, oppression, institutional betrayal, or repeated exposure to injustice.
The stress isn’t personal, but the impact on the body and mind is.
Different trauma types can overlap, too, so be patient with yourself on this healing journey.

The realist 😬😕🤨
Accept the physical toll of their manufactured chaos. Research confirms chronic emotional abuse permanently elevates cortisol levels and weakens your immune system. You are not just stressed; your body is under systemic attack.
