Parenting Practice

When sleep feels hard, most parents assume they need to change bedtime.
Earlier.
Later.
Skip the nap.
Move everything around.
But after helping hundreds of families, we’ve learned something important:
Bedtime is rarely where sleep problems begin.
Instead of immediately changing the clock, we encourage families to look at the foundations first:
✨ Consistent wake times
✨ Predictable bedtime routines
✨ Healthy daytime sleep and sleep pressure
✨ Independent sleep skills
✨ Consistency over perfection
When those pieces are working together, bedtime often becomes much easier.
That’s exactly why our July theme is Back to Basics—because great sleep isn’t built on one perfect bedtime. It’s built on simple habits that support healthy sleep every day.
📖 Head to our latest blog, Before You Change Bedtime, Start Here, to learn how these five foundations can transform your family’s sleep.

The families we see navigate summer sleep most successfully aren’t necessarily the most scheduled.
They’re the ones who know what matters most.
When wake times, bedtime routines, and sleep environments stay relatively consistent, children can usually tolerate much more flexibility elsewhere than parents expect.
This means:
✔️ Vacation
✔️ Camps
✔️ Grandparents
✔️ Late dinners
✔️ Special events
can all fit into a healthy sleep routine.
Sleep doesn’t have to control your summer.
A few strong anchors can make all the difference.
