Newtown Elementary's school garden is growing more than fresh produce. 🌱

What started in 2015 with a grant from the Virginia Beach Education Foundation has blossomed into a community gathering place where students, families, neighbors, and volunteers work side by side to grow fresh fruits, vegetables, and lasting connections.

Along the way, students are learning where healthy food comes from and seeing their harvest served in the school cafeteria.

Join us for the Back-to-School Care Fair on Saturday, Aug. 15, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. 🎒

Families can connect with more than 100 community organizations and VBCPS departments while accessing free resources, including backpacks and school supplies, required vaccines and school entry physicals, vision screenings, headphones or earbuds, student haircuts, and more.

Starting on Thursday July 9, Parks After Dark at Williams Farm is moving locations to Bettie F Williams Elementary School for the remainder of the 2026 season.

The school field, just a couple of minutes from Williams Farm Park, will allow our staff and volunteers to better manage and engage with the larger visitor numbers we've been experiencing over the last few weeks. The school site will also add a playground and basketball court to the PAD games and activities. Food truck and movie night schedules won't be affected by the locations change.

Best locations for parking and drop-off/pick up include the parking lot in the front of the Bettie F. Williams Elementary School, side streets along Learning Circle and parking lots at Newtown Elementary school.

Reading fuels the mind, sparks creativity and builds critical thinking skills. Let's encourage students to read this summer! 📚☀️

VBCPS is serving up SUN Meals all summer long!🍴 🥪

Free breakfast and lunch are available for children at select VBCPS locations throughout Summer Break. Meals are served Monday through Thursday on a first-come, first-served basis, with no paperwork, enrollment, or residency requirements needed.
