Today we honor the mothers whose love, strength, and guidance help shape our families and communities every day. Thank you for the sacrifices you make and the values you instill in the next generation. Wishing all the incredible moms across Virginia a joyful and blessed Mother’s Day.

Glad to see the Virginia Beach City Council recognize our region’s incredible history by proclaiming April 27, 2026 as Birthplace of American Cuisine Day.

From the first landing at Cape Henry to the early exploration of Lynnhaven Bay—including George Percy’s account of roasted oysters—Virginia’s coastal communities helped shape what would become American cuisine. This rich tradition reflects the blending of Indigenous knowledge, English practices, and African influences that still define our food culture today.

As we celebrate VA250, it’s only fitting to honor Virginia Beach as the true birthplace of American cuisine—and to recognize the farmers, watermen, chefs, and small businesses who continue that legacy every day.
