I always aim to fill my plate with about 75% vegetables. Stick with mostly non-starchy veggies. These foods are high in fiber, too, so they’ll fill you up.

Winter squashes and sweet potatoes are fine in moderation (½ cup a day). Not a ton of potatoes! French fries don’t count even though they are the number one vegetable in America. Always choose real vegetables in their most whole and natural form.

Choose organic and regenerative when possible. Use the Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen guides by the Environmental Working Group (ewg.org) to choose the least contaminated fruits and vegetables and save money.

Try to incorporate the highest quality of these powerful phytohormetic plant compounds in your diet daily.

Have green tea in the morning. Broccoli with garlic and onions. Himalayan Tartary buck- wheat pancakes with apples. Dark green salads with extra virgin olive oil. Roasted mushrooms. And enjoy homemade curries with turmeric.

Why You’re Getting Flare-Ups With Your Autoimmune Disease 02/17/2021

Let’s talk about autoimmune disease.

The question I get asked most by my clients is “Why did I get a flare up of my autoimmune disease?”.

Let’s first talk about what the immune system does.

Our immune system is our #1 defense. It attacks invaders, and helps us heal and get better. When you get sick with a cold or flu, your body attacks it like it normally does in a normal immune system. In a dysfunctional immune system the attacking continues. Because of this inflammation, issues start to come to the surface (headaches, fatigue, chronic joint pain, depression, rashes, and more).

You wonder why you’re having a flare? It’s multifactorial.

There’s some things we can do and some things we can’t do anything about.

on the top of the list is that people hear it is our genetics. There is a component there that’s associated with autoimmune disease, however, just because you have the genetic predisposition to this condition doesn’t mean you’re going to get it. There are things you can do that alter and minimize those chances.

Things like:

- Lifestyle
- Stress management
- Sleep optimization
- Exercise
- Nutrogenomics (Diet)

These are all things that can change the way your genes are expressed. This decreases your chances of getting an autoimmune disease.

Unfortunately, when you develop an autoimmune disease, you’re much more likely to develop a second or third one.

So what can you change? This is what needs to be focused on.

This is where I come in. I can help you determine what areas need to be worked on, with an individualized approach.
