Thermal or natural cleft? Do you know the difference? Thermal and natural cleft both come from the same bedrock, but they are harvested in different ways.

Thermal comes from large blocks of stone (some the size of a minivan!) that are then cut with a diamond bladed saw or wire. Very uniform dimensions and texture. Pictured on the right below.

Natural cleft is cut into smaller blocks and split by hand along the natural seams in the rock. This reveals the natural texture of the stone which varies from layer to layer and piece to piece, giving the unique look that has made the stone famous for hundreds of years. Pictured on the left below.
