Christopher Mathie statement for Water Ways:
"Healthy Water — Happy Herons," and "Crabicus Dance," are acrylic paintings that create a sense of texture, movement and wonder. Living near the Puget Sound shore, we often see how abundant life can be when healthy waters are protected by humans who care about conservation. Within a one mile walk one might see bald eagles, osprey, kingfishers, herons, and many other shore birds. Look down and you will see crabs, starfish, oysters and all kinds of thriving life. Look outward and you might see a seal or sea lion pop its head up and if you are really lucky you might spot a pod of orcas chasing salmon. None of this is possible in toxic, polluted water. We have observed several reconstruction and conservation projects right in our own neighborhood, which have restored salmon runs and produced more vibrant and healthy shores along the Puget Sound and surrounding creeks. As an artist it is a joy to capture the vitality of these scenes and hopefully inspire others to care about healthy waters.
