Fellow Mermagicans, our website has been down for at least 2 days and we are aware of the problem. We have been actively working with our hosting company to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We expect the site to be up and running by Monday 8/18. We apologize for any inconvenience this is causing. We appreciate your patience as we work to return to normal operations. We will continue to post updates as they are available.

Happy Holidays from our Mermagica family to yours!

Check out THIS creature from tropical waters!

Spirobranchus Giganteus
Christmas Tree Worm

The Christmas tree part of the worm is a diver and aquarium collector's favorite!

Part of the Serpulidae family, this worm will find a home in the crevices of hard coral (such as brain coral) then create a separate calcareous or calcium shell around itself (double the protection!).

The radioles or feather-like hairs double as the creatures lungs and filter feeders. The "hairs" will move and sort sand, plankton and food particles; Food is kept for nutritional purposes while sand is kept for shell building.

At the slightest pass of a shadow or movement the worm will quickly retract in to hiding.
