We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jason Collins, an LGBTQ Sports Hall of Fame inductee from the Class of 2013 and an upcoming recipient of the 2026 Glenn Burke Activism and Advocacy Award.
Collins was the first active player in the NBA to come out of the closet and later served as a NBA Cares Ambassador, inspiring people worldwide with his courage to be openly gay in the highest level of basketball.
The Sports Equality Foundation and the LGBTQ Sports Hall of Fame send our thoughts and love out to Jason’s husband, Brunson as well as his friends, family and all who were inspired by him.
