My name is Linda Watkins and I am the
owner of Art Adventure Studio. I have
loved art for as long as I can remember. My first art class was in High School. I enjoyed it, but was taught few if any
techniques for drawing and painting. While in college I began taking lessons
at an atelier and learned the basic
fundamentals of art, Sketching, shading,
and painting techniques. What I learned
the
n was so rewarding. I was happy, I
was painting proficiently, I was around
other artists. Hours would slip by while
in front of my canvas. What I’ve learned since then has been equally rewarding. I feel fortunate to be living my dream, I love Painting and have always been drawn to kids. I began teaching fine art lessons to children and teens in North San Diego County in 1989. In 2001 I opened a quaint studio in Oceanside, CA. The studio inspires creativity, it is comfortable, there is laughter in the air, and students are surrounded with music , light, art benches easels and brushes. I wanted my students to feel the way I do when I walk into an artists studio that is just for them. I feel I have accomplished this I get the privilege of seeing the focused expression on their face when they are concentrating, their smile when they feel confident, their laughter when they are comfortable and having fun, I love what I do and look forward to sharing my joy and knowledge with your children. DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS:
I teach art lessons in a small group setting and work with each artist individually on a one to one basis giving them instruction based on his/her age, aptitude and interests. I always encourage each student to only do the best they can do and not to be too hard on themselves. The classes are a mixture of students at different levels so a student may start at any time and fit in any class that is open. I encourage each student along the way and want them to feel comfortable and inspired. A beginning student will start out with drawing and sketching, learning how to hold the pencil, how to work from large to small, relating and how to build a drawing using shapes and contour. We will work with a variety of subject matter including, still life's, animals, landscapes etc. I always take turns with students, alternating with something they would love to draw or paint and then something I have chosen specifically for them at their level. While in the drawing part of the course, I will teach a students how to use either chalk or oil pastels, colored pencils, or markers in a variety of different ways. As a students gains skills they will be introduced to shading and tone, they will explore watercolor, pen 'n ink still working from a variety of subject matter. Whey will learn about the color wheel. They will progress to more complicated drawings and compositions and will be introduced to some of the great masters. I always gently encourage them to push themselves if they get too comfortable or stuck. As a student advances they will explore combining mediums, duplicating some of the masters, learning about how to apply and use of different painting techniques. Explore different styles and compositions. I always encourage each student to take their time relax and enjoy the process!
