Why do we constantly move our sheep? ๐Ÿ‘

This practice is called rotational grazing, one of the foundational principles of regenerative agriculture championed by farmers like Joel Salatin. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ

Rather than grazing the same pasture continuously, our sheep are moved regularly to fresh grass. This gives previously grazed areas time to rest and recover, allowing plants to regrow, soil biology to thrive, and the land to become healthier over time. ๐ŸŒฟ

The goal isn't simply to raise sheep. ๐Ÿ‘

It's to steward the land in a way that works with nature rather than against it. ๐ŸŒฟ

At City on a Hill Farm, we believe healthy soil produces healthy plants, healthy plants produce healthy animals, and healthy animals contribute to more nourishing food.

So when you see Sophie moving the flock, you're witnessing more than a daily farm choreโ€”you're seeing regenerative agriculture in action. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ

The quality of our food begins long before a batch of soup is ever madeโ€”it starts right here in the pasture.

Follow along to learn more about regenerative agriculture and how where your food comes from matters.
