Gift card payment requests are almost always a scam.

No government agency, utility company, or business will ever ask you to pay with a gift card. Not the IRS. Not Social Security. Not your electric company. Not your bank.

Here are the red flags to watch for:
1. Someone on the phone says you owe money and must pay immediately
2. They tell you to buy gift cards and read them the numbers on the back
3. They say to keep it secret from your family
4. They make you feel scared or rushed

The moment you feel that pressure, slow down. Hang up. Call someone you trust.

The scammers did not win this time!!!

A Dollar General manager in Beaumont, Texas named Edith noticed something was wrong when an elderly Navy veteran came in to buy gift cards.

Someone on the phone was walking her through a scam, step by step.

Edith stepped in and stopped it. The veteran kept her $500.
