Recreational Fire Safety Reminder

With the recent storms leaving an abundance of downed trees and firewood available, the Two Rivers Fire Department would like to remind residents that recreational fires must comply with City Ordinance 3-1-3 (see attached)

Before lighting a fire, make sure you have a responsible adult monitoring it at all times, burn only clean, dry wood, keep a water source nearby, maintain proper clearance from structures, and be mindful of smoke and wind conditions.

A few simple precautions can help ensure a safe and enjoyable evening around the fire while preventing unnecessary fire department responses.

On May 23, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers from the Two Rivers Police Department responded to the area of 22nd Street and Adams Street for a motorcycle versus utility pole crash.

A 36-year-old male operator was provided immediate aid by a passerby prior to the arrival of emergency responders. The operator was subsequently treated on scene by the Two Rivers Fire Department and EMS personnel before being airlifted for emergency medical treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

The roadway between Adams Street and Monroe Street has since been reopened to normal traffic.

We would like to thank the Two Rivers Fire Department, Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the passerby who assisted during this incident.

No additional information is being released at this time.

This week, the City of Two Rivers Fire Department proudly recognizes and thanks our dedicated TRFD Firefighter/Paramedics, along with all EMS professionals across Manitowoc County, for the lifesaving care they provide every day.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center (JDC), our law enforcement partners, and all fire and police agencies that respond first and provide critical care and support before ambulance crews arrive. Your teamwork, professionalism, and commitment make a difference in every emergency.

National EMS Week was first formalized by President Gerald Ford in 1974 to honor EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and all out-of-hospital medical personnel. This year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” recognizes the collaboration between EMS clinicians, dispatchers, public health agencies, hospitals, and first responders that helps save lives and strengthen our communities.

Today’s EMS professionals combine compassion with advanced training, innovative tools, and evolving models of care to improve patient outcomes long before arriving at the hospital. But improving outcomes goes beyond medicine. It means supporting the people behind the badge and patch with strong leadership, mental health resources, safe staffing, professional development, and community support.

To all EMS clinicians, dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, and first responders throughout Manitowoc County — thank you for answering the call, day and night.

As Utilities crews continue working tirelessly to restore power throughout the City, the Two Rivers Fire Department would like to recognize and thank all of the agencies and departments involved in responding to the countless storm-related incidents over the past several hours.

We would like to acknowledge the dedicated efforts of the Two Rivers Police Department, Two Rivers Utilities, Department of Public Works, Mutual Aid Utility Personnel, and the Parks & Recreation Department, along with our mutual aid partners from Wisconsin Public Service, JDC/Emergency Management, Manitowoc Fire Rescue, Mishicot Fire Department, and the Town of Two Rivers Fire Department — notably Chief Mark Leichtfuss, who assisted TRFD Chief Murack with staging and coordinating fire resources during the response.

This was a coordinated and rapid response by the City of Two Rivers and its partnering agencies to help keep our community safe during a significant weather event. The teamwork, professionalism, and commitment shown by all involved has been outstanding.

We would also like to thank the many community members who stepped up to check on neighbors, assist with tree cleanup, warn others of downed power lines, and lend a helping hand wherever needed. In times like these, it is incredible to see our community come together to support one another.

Please remember there may still be weeks of cleanup ahead. Use extreme caution when operating chainsaws or clearing damaged trees, and know your limitations before attempting hazardous work. Stay clear of downed power lines and report them immediately.

Continue to follow updates from City Hall, Utilities, and your cable/internet providers through their social media channels, and please continue checking on those without power who may need assistance.
