Not to be a pessimist, but when the Federal Reserve gets the economy back to its 2% inflation target, that does not mean that prices are going to go back to what they were a few years ago (or anywhere close to it).

The reason is that the Fed is looking to get to a 2% inflation target YEAR over YEAR, from the previous years already inflated prices.
For instance: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 261.58 in January of 2021. IF the Fed gets inflation back to 2% in January of 2024, the CPI reading would be 305.15.

That means the total inflation from January 2021 to January 2024 would be 16.65%.

I think it is important for people in general and specifically those who are on a fixed income to understand that and plan ahead!!

There is an 86% chance that the Federal Reserve will increase the Fed Funds Rate by .25% on May 3rd according to CME FedWatch, which will bring the Fed Funds rate to 5%-5.25%. Many people think that will be the end of rate hikes, however, that doesn't tell the whole story.
Even if the Fed stops raising rates, the 10 Year Treasury will remain elevated in my opinion because the Fed still has 7.877 TRILLION in securities to unwind. The Fed has only unwound (is that a word?) .627 TRILLION (or 627 Billion) over the last year. At this pace, it will take another 11.5 years to unwind.
IN SHORT: Rates are NOT going down significantly anytime soon unless the economy completely breaks down!!
