General Information regarding Legal Document Assistants💡

An LDA is an experienced professional who is qualified and authorized to assist self-represented clients prepare legal forms, at the direction of the client.

• An LDA is not an attorney:
• They cannot give out legal advice; &
• They cannot represent you in Court

However, an LDA can provide you with referrals if you need to consult with an attorney.

LDAs must be registered and bonded in the county of their principal place of business. This is for the protection of the client.

Legal document assistants were commonly known as Independent Paralegals. However, as of January 1, 2000, only those working directly under an attorney may be referred to as a paralegal.
