As you know winter is coming on and the weather is getting colder and we feel we need to take some quick action on helping our brothers and sisters. For now we are gathering up blankets, gloves, socks, hats, coats and non-perishable food items. Especially food items that can be made into soups to give them a hot nutritious meal. We are planning to cook a meal once a week (for now) to take to them

Well, once again our Governor has turned his attention to one of the most helpless groups of individuals we have, the homeless. Seems he thinks the problem started with Mayor Nichols who has been mayor for about a year. Stitt has ordered all encampments to be cleared out, it seems he doesn't like it when they are seen by visitors, (like no one else has a homeless problem.)
Anyway, when a camp is cleaned out or even an individual who is camped out, the cops give them 3 minutes to grab what they want to keep and be gone. As you can imagine, 3 minutes is not enough time to take down their tent, grab their clothes, and whatever else they have in their tent, and leave. So whatever they do not get gathered up gets confiscated. People have even lost all their paperwork, ie. CDIB card, SS card, birth certificate & so on. They lose most everything they have and then need to start over. So many times, I have had someone come in, maybe a month after we have gotten them these documents, needing to file for them again. It is frustrating beyond comprehension! I finally got smart, though. Now I save all their documents in a sealed baggy stapled to their file. I make copies of their IDs and all their paperwork, and that is what they carry now. If that gets lost or stolen, we just make another copy for them, and we don't have to order any more. Anyway, that is part of the reason we go through so many blankets, sleeping bags, and tents.
