FWIS: In 2022, I received a call from Alison Anthony asking if I would consider serving as a tri-chair for the Tulsa Area United Way’s 100-Year Centennial Campaign. It was the easiest “yes” I’ve ever said. Alongside my fellow tri-chairs, Stephania Grober, CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Pierce Norton, CEO of ONEOK, we set an ambitious goal: $26,733,101—the largest fundraising goal ever set in the Tulsa area. Thanks to the incredible support of community leaders, corporations, individuals, and nonprofit partners, we didn’t just meet that goal—we exceeded it, raising a historic $27,076,000!
In total community impact for 2024, that number grew to a staggering $30,995,152.
At our celebration event, United Way Worldwide President and CEO Angela Williams delivered a powerful keynote, reminding us of the evolving role United Way plays in strengthening communities. She said, “Every dollar raised strengthens the programs and partnerships that make Tulsa stronger, more resilient, and full of opportunity for all.”
Her words reinforced what I already knew firsthand—United Way agencies change lives. My journey with United Way agencies began in the months following my football accident. Ability Resources provided me with a wheelchair and bus passes so I could regain mobility. Then I found The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges, which became my safe haven—a place where I could rebuild my life and strengthen myself in my new normal.
From 2017 to 2022, I worked at a homeless shelter with Youth Services of Tulsa, another United Way-supported organization. In 2018, when I lost my apartment in a fire, the Red Cross was the first to help me navigate the chaos. These organizations—just a few of the 70+ agencies and community collaborations supported by United Way, are lifelines in times of crisis.
I’m fortunate to live in a city where community partners work together to uplift those in need. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am today without that support.
Last week, we celebrated the companies and organizations that played a pivotal role in this campaign’s success. While this chapter may be closing, more is on the horizon.

In nine days, Tulsa makes a decision on who its leader will be to guide them into the future. I support Monroe Nichols because he is someone that will work hard on behalf of the interest of the city, but also the interests of people who are not heard in the city. I believe in a growing Tulsa and I believe Monroe is someone that can guide that growth.
