On March 18, 1963, the Supreme Court of the United States unanimously held that the Sixth Amendment right to counsel requires state courts to appoint attorneys for defendants who could not afford to retain counsel on their own. 59 years later public defenders continue to work tirelessly to protect constitutional rights of the accused. The Tulsa County Public Defender’s Office celebrates today by recognizing all those engaged in public defense!
