Ovarian cancer is often called the “silent killer”—because it typically shows no early symptoms and is frequently diagnosed at a late stage.
Here’s what you need to know—and how your insurance plays a leading role in protection:
Early detection saves lives: When caught early (local stage), the 5‑year survival rate is over 90%. Yet, only about 20% of cases are found that early.
Use your insurance proactively: Schedule regular gynecological visits and ask about pelvic exams or risk assessments. Understand your coverage for genetic counseling if you have a family history or BRCA mutations.
Know the gaps: Screening for average-risk individuals isn’t recommended, so reporting persistent symptoms (like bloating or pelvic discomfort) early is vital.
Tap into resources: Many insurers cover diagnostic tests, specialist referrals, second opinions, clinical trials, and treatment navigation support.
Insurance isn’t just for emergencies—it’s your tool for timely action, early detection, and empowered care. Let’s turn awareness into protection!

Prevention through regular screening and avoiding risk factors can prevent your risk, plus potentially save you thousands. The United States Preventative Services Task Force recommends avoiding carcinogenics, as well as screening for lung cancer in adults aged 50-80 years old with a long smoking history.
