Special thanks to the teenaged co-founders in 2009 who started a safe-driving & life-saving message for a generation: Glade, Moriah, Savannah, Elena, Sam, Sahar, Maurice & Cameron, with Dr. Nancy Rader Inhofe as an instrumental leader. Grateful for State Farm funding that very first grant.

Hey Mom & Dad,

When it comes to driving, you are my #1 influence.
Seriously.

Sorry to say, but a recent study found that parents are setting a poor example for teens by engaging in unsafe driving behaviors, and are not listening to their kids’ warnings. Forty-one percent of teens say their parents continue these unsafe behaviors even after their teens ask them to stop, and 28% of teens say their parents justify unsafe behavior.

As a parent, you are the number one influence on teen driver safety. Self-reported surveys show that teens whose parents impose driving restrictions and set good examples typically engage in less risky driving and are involved in fewer crashes.

Teen driver fatalities have declined over the years. Despite this, motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of teen deaths.

Please consider the example you are setting for me when you are driving me to soccer practice or piano lessons. Are you ready to turn off your phone while driving? Or put it in the glove box so you won't be tempted to use it?

Love,
Your child
