WHAT IS BOTOX
Botox is the brand name of a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When injected, Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can’t contract making the wrinkles relax and soften. Botox is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eyes), and frown lines. Wrinkles caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox.

HOW OFTEN TO TREAT
The effects from Botox will last three to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to reappear and need to be treated again. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are shrinking.

WHAT TO EXPECT
BEFORE BOTOX
Your doctor will assess your needs and determine points of injection and doses.

DURING THE PROCEDURE
Your doctor will use a syringe to inject Botox into the various treatment areas. Many patients experience slight pain or discomfort at the injection site as Botox is being administered.

AFTER RECEIVING BOTOX
You will typically see the effects in about three to five days. Swelling or bruising may occur at Botox injection sites.
