Work activities include, but are not limited to:

Working with systems engineers, FSW peers to understand and expand on requirements based on high-level design details

Developing an FSW design architecture that meets requirements

Proposing, reviewing, and analyzing potential implementation approaches based on cost, complexity, and schedule

Developing the associated code following strict project coding guidelines and process requirements.

Developing, executing, and analyzing unit tests verifying satisfaction of requirements, proper implementation of interfaces, and code coverage

Working with other subsystems to ensure proper integration of subsystem code into the functional design, as required

Participating in development of Computer-in-the-loop (CITL) and Hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) systems

Performing or providing oversight of CITL and HITL integration and testing.

Required Skills:

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science
Five years of software engineering with 3 years of recent real-time embedded flight software experience

Recent background in flight software development with specific recent experience in the following languages and operating systems: C/C++ (proficient), Linux, FreeRTOS

Recent experience with inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms

Advanced knowledge of principles, theories, concepts and techniques in developing, modifying, debugging, releasing and maintaining real-time and embedded software systems for mission-critical aerospace applications

Desired Skills:

Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team environment

Experience debugging software/hardware interactions and possible failure modes

Space flight experience is strongly preferred

Recent experience with device driver development and software/hardware interfaces for both custom and commercial hardware

Familiarity with Python

Familiarity with the CubeSat Space Protocol.

As a key member of the RF Engineering team, you will report into “Engineering Manager”. Seniority will be determined by experience. The Senior TT&C Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the RF System Design and Analysis of the York’s spacecraft communication systems .Maintains a high level of technical expertise working closely with our technology partners and regulatory agencies to perform detailed reviews of link budgets, coverage capabilities and to determine target satellite capabilities. Looks for opportunities to improve the space link efficiency through system design. As an RF Design Engineer, it is expected that they be a liaison between Product Development, Operations, Suppliers and Engineering, and provides high level definition of requirements for new product development to maintain the leading York Space Systems products and services.

Responsibilities

Design, test, and document a custom S-band radio that uses custom electronic designs along with commercially available components.

Collaborate with team members to gather and finalize requirements for design.

Research and test commercially available components for suitability in designs.

Collaborate with other RF Engineers, FPGA designers, and the electrical engineering team on design and testing plans.

Collaborate with Electrical Engineers to make sure designs are suitable for the space environment.

Work on schematics and PCB layouts with the Electrical Engineering team for any custom RF electronics needed.

Assist Electrical Engineering team with other EE tasks as needed, including reviewing electronic designs, schematics, and circuit board layouts.

May also work on designs at higher microwave frequencies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and/or RF Engineering, with some communication/satellite development background including, but not limited to, RF Communications and Information Systems.

3+ years of Electrical and RF design experience.

Schematic design and RF circuit board design experience.

Understanding of space environment: Radiation, Surface Charging, Thermal, Outgassing, etc.

Experience in RF systems integration and testing.

Understanding of FPGA design.

Handle Stressful situations and deadline pressures well.

Accepts responsibility for achieving goals and expectations.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with demonstrated ability to execute projects on time and on budget.

Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.

Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision or in a team.

Extremely detail orientated.

Motivated, goal orientated and persistent.

May require some travel.

Preferred Qualifications

Understanding of satellite subsystems and orbits.

Experience with FPGA design

-Xilinx toolchain (Vivado, Xilinx, Verification IP suite, etc.)

-Petalinux and Yocto Project

-Hardware description languages (VHDL, Verilog, etc.)

Programming experience (C, Python, Bash, etc.)

Familiarity with git or similar revision control software.

Comfortable with Linux and Windows.

Experience with circuit simulation.

Basic understanding of antenna theory.
