He never missed a Friday. For nearly 30 years, every single Friday, Dick Goddard put a shelter cat or dog on live Cleveland television and asked someone to take them home. Then he spent five years lobbying Ohio lawmakers to make animal cruelty a felony. He died in 2020. His law just got stronger in his name.

Dick Goddard was the chief meteorologist at Fox 8 Cleveland for 55 years and holds the Guinness World Record for the longest career as a weather forecaster. But the people of Northeast Ohio knew him as something else entirely. He was the man who showed up every Friday with a shelter animal. He was the man who raised over $130,000 every year for the Cleveland APL through a telethon he personally founded. And he was the man who traveled to Columbus over and over again until Ohio lawmakers finally made animal cruelty a first-offense felony. They called it Goddard's Law. It was signed in 2016.

Dick Goddard died on August 4, 2020 at the age of 89. He never knew that four years later the Ohio Supreme Court would use his law in a unanimous 7 to 0 ruling to declare that every stray cat and every unowned dog in Ohio is a companion animal fully protected under felony law. He never saw that victory. But it happened in his name. His daughter Kim wrote on Facebook the day he died: "My hero, my daddy, THE GREATEST ANIMAL LOVER is now an angel." The four-foots still have his voice. It is written into Ohio law and it is not going anywhere.

This tiny ocean genius carries its own tool kit wherever it goes.

Sea otters possess an extraordinary survival skill that sets them apart in the animal kingdom. Tucked inside loose pouches beneath their forearms, they store carefully chosen rocks—simple tools that become essential for daily feeding. Floating on their backs, otters repeatedly use these stones to crack open tough-shelled shellfish, turning the sea’s hardest meals into nourishment.

This remarkable behavior highlights intelligence, memory, and adaptation in one of the ocean’s most charming creatures. It’s a quiet reminder that even the smallest animals can master ingenious solutions to thrive in the wild.

Amazing!!! Yhe battle finally won in one state! May it become universal

"Pennsylvania makes history by declaring pets legal family members, not property." This landmark decision marks a monumental shift in how animals are viewed within the legal system. By recognizing pets as family members, Pennsylvania is acknowledging that the bond between a human and their pet is sacred and deserving of protection.

This change not only improves the rights of pets but also raises awareness about the ethical treatment of animals. It’s a win for animal lovers everywhere, and a step toward a future where our pets’ well-being is taken seriously in the eyes of the law. Pets, after all, are more than just property—they are living, breathing family members who enrich our lives.

Let this be a moment of celebration and reflection on how far we’ve come in treating animals with the respect and love they deserve. 🐕⚖️
