Join our host Jermaine Wells to watch two short films: "I Was Here" and "Dance Film" on TVFilm, Upstate New York's indie film showcase!
π§βπ§βπ§ "I Was Here": Elle and Jonah are reeling after their young child, Kai, receives a devastating medical diagnosis. They are on the run from facing the unthinkable; that their child could die at any moment. Emotionally depleted and desperate for support, they turn to a retired grief counselor, Sarah. Sarah welcomes Elle and Jonah into her home, and reveals to them that she lost her son when he was only 13. Her questions force them to admit unspeakable truths. By being in Sarah's world, something within them begins to crack and let in the faintest of lights.
βοΈ "Dance Film": This animated film playfully upends the traditional focus of most avant-garde choreography films by turning its attention on the spectator of a dance instead of the dancer herself. This film is about the act of watching, and what it means to look at someone with love, tenderness and openness. This film is a small and mighty affirmation of life. "There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children." - Nelson Mandela
Watch this Friday, July 10th, at 11:00 PM, or stream online at wmht.org/TVFilm!
TVFilm is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

Last week, our Production team had the opportunity to sharpen their skills with a workshop held by two industry veterans, Kevin Keithley and Jill Malouf!
Kevin gave us an inside look into the intricacies that go into operating a jib, from proper camera balance to camera controls. Our team got hands-on experience with having the chance to operate the jib ourselves!
Jill gave us a look at the craft of focus pulling. With one team member operating the camera and one team member pulling focus, it was a great opportunity to get a deeper understanding of what it takes to keep an image sharp.
Thank you, Kevin and Jill, for taking the time to share your skills with us!
Since the United States founding, we've enjoyed the narrative that America has always stood as a bastion of liberty. It's a good story...if it were entirely true.
In this audio special from WMHT Public Media and PBS, we explore the hidden history behind America's quest for freedom. Produced in companion to KEN BURNS'S THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.
