Extreme heat can affect more than just your physical health. It can also impact your mood, energy, focus, and overall mental well-being.
As temperatures rise, remember to take care of both your physical and behavioral health.
A few ways to stay safe:
• Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
• Stay in air conditioned spaces when possible. Cooling centers are available throughout Oakland County.
• Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Check in on older adults, neighbors, and anyone who may need extra support.
• If you're feeling more stressed, anxious, irritable, or fatigued than usual, know that extreme heat can contribute to those feelings. Take breaks, rest when you need to, and reach out for support if you're struggling.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a behavioral health crisis, help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call the Community Health Network Crisis Line at 1-888-238-0611 to speak with a trained professional.
