Oakwood Community Center

Our Food Pantry will be closed this Saturday, 7/4, to allow our staff and volunteers time to enjoy the holiday break! We will return to regular service on Saturday, 7/11. Thank you and stay cool this weekend!

BIG CONGRATS to our Oakwood Techniques students who performed their original production, “A FOREST THROUGH THE TREES,” last Thursday to a packed audience of friends, family, and community. In this play, devised by the students and staff, a group of friends enter the forest to try to take a short cut but they get lost. Once there, the creatures of the forest attempt to distract them, split them up and get them to stay in the forest forever, and only the power of friendship can help them find their way home. Along the way they meet a pack of werewolf cubs, a couple of sirens, dancing zombies, and menacing trees, all being lead by a Queen in larvae form…

Through two acts and seven scenes our students, who ranged from 3rd through 8th grade and two high school students who are with us through the Rensselaer County Youth Employment program, learned all their lines, dances and percussion ensemble which they performed from the pit! Students and staff put in countless hours including coming in every Wednesday for the last month (our program is generally Tuesdays and Thursdays), and taking two full day rehearsals during days when there was no school. We could not be more proud!!!
